I am Assistant Curate at St John's Hyde Park, in the Paddington area, London. I'm married with two children and a cat.
About 6 years ago, having always had anything but a green finger, I decided to start trying to grow my own vegetables. It was partly to try and reduce my food miles, partly to do something that forces me to be patient and partly because I thought it would save some money. Helen is vegetarian and loves to cook, so I also try to grow things that she can use.
Pastor Jack Alvarez, our member in the Philippines, has agreed to get up in the middle of the night (his time) to talk to us at our convenience (the evening in the UK and afternoon and morning in North America) about his work in one of the most impoverished places in Manila.
The topic for the evening is Sand Dunes and led by our very own Paul Rooney. Knowing Paul, I am confident we will come away with smiles on our faces and knowing things about sand dunes, and the people who use and abuse them, that we had never previously even thought of.

Jack, an associate member of our Society, is the pastor of a church in the Payatas area of Manila, which is not only incredibly impoverished but is also adjacent to the Payatas Dumpsite where almost 1000 tons of garbage is disposed of daily.
